Solo Automotive Inc. is a Canadian company based in Vancouver, dedicated to creating sustainable electric vehicles for city commuters. Its main innovation, the SOLO EV, is a compact, three-wheeled, single-seat electric vehicle tailored for solo travel in urban areas. With a focus on simplifying commuting and reducing environmental impact, the company is also expanding its footprint across North America and Europe.

Company Beginnings

Solo Automotive Inc. was launched to address the mobility needs of solo drivers in busy urban environments. Operating with about 50 employees and headquartered in Vancouver, the company stays rooted in Canadian values while pursuing wider market opportunities. Its approach has aligned with investor interest in sustainable transportation solutions for cities

A Vehicle That Matches Real Commuting Patterns

Solo’s key product, the SOLO EV, is a fully electric, three-wheeled, single-occupant vehicle designed for dense urban settings. The company points to data showing that nearly 80% of vehicle trips are made by individuals traveling alone. Rather than modify existing car models, Solo created a new form designed for this specific use.

The vehicle is built for the average 40-mile round-trip commute and covers that range on a full charge. It includes air conditioning, a Bluetooth audio system with USB, an LCD digital instrument cluster, and power mirrors and windows. The vehicle also includes remote keyless entry, a rear-view backup camera, and heated seats to support drivers in all seasons.

Storage capacity is five cubic feet, which accommodates common items like grocery bags, backpacks, or briefcases. Measuring 122 inches in length and 61.4 inches in width and weighing 1,735 pounds, the SOLO EV is sized to fit the needs of city driving while helping reduce traffic pressure.

Practical Performance for Urban Roads

The SOLO EV reaches a top speed of 80 miles per hour. Its 56-horsepower liquid-cooled synchronous motor delivers rear-wheel drive and 103 foot-pounds of torque. This provides a smooth and stable experience on city streets and nearby routes.

The battery is a 144-volt, 17.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion NCA pack with liquid cooling. With a 220-volt Level 2 charger, charging from 0% to 85% takes about 2.5 hours, and a full charge takes 6 hours. When using a 120-volt outlet, the battery reaches 85% in 12.5 hours and 100% in 15 hours.

Safety in Design

Safety is a priority in the SOLO EV’s engineering. The vehicle is equipped with LED headlights, daytime running lights, power disc brakes, and a collapsible steering column. Additional protection features include triple-reinforced steel side-impact areas, front and rear crumple zones, a high-strength steel halo roll bar, and torque-limiting stability control.

Its composite monocoque shell adds durability while keeping the weight low. These features work together to support safe and dependable urban travel for solo drivers.

Company Values

Solo Automotive Inc. is led by three core principles: innovation, sustainability, and urban freedom. The SOLO EV is fully electric and emits zero emissions, directly reducing the environmental impact of commuting. Replacing a gas-powered vehicle with a SOLO EV can prevent over 5,500 pounds of CO₂ emissions annually.

The company also focuses on affordability. The SOLO EV requires less maintenance, electricity replaces fuel costs, and insurance can be more affordable due to the vehicle’s structure and use case.

Urban freedom is expressed through the vehicle’s ease of navigation, small footprint, and convenience in city environments. It allows individuals to travel efficiently without adjusting their routine to fit larger, traditional cars.

Milestones and Expansion

Since its early stages, Solo Automotive Inc. has achieved notable progress. It introduced the SOLO EV as the world’s first electric vehicle built specifically for single drivers. Early investor interest supported its development and market entry.

The company and its vehicle have been featured in media outlets including CNN, Bloomberg, Forbes, and MotorTrend, with a focus on its performance, environmental benefits, and unique design.

Vehicle deliveries have been made across Canada and the United States. In Europe, pilot programs have introduced the SOLO EV to new users and generated feedback for future product updates.

In 2025, the company updated its sales approach. A $200 fully refundable deposit now allows customers to reserve a vehicle. After reserving, they are supported by sales associates and delivery advisors through the rest of the process.
